Coven Academy

If you want to know if Coven Academy is a good show to watch with your teen, I can tell you it is. It is the right show for a cozy fall or spooky October binge watch weekend with your teenager and it has all the elements we like for a high school teen show. We have magic, we have the private high school and boarding school, we have the good teacher, we have the evil teacher, we have love, grief, legacy and a love triangle.
Watching Coven Academy with your teen can spark conversations about trust, and if we as parents or teachers, should hold back information, if we think it is too dangerous for our teens to know. Briar's Mom didn't tell her that she is a witch and she didn't tell her, that she is her adoptive mother and not her biological one. And Miss Graves didn't tell the girls the truth about the danger and what the danger is. They don't do this because they don't trust the girls, they want to keep them safe. We can ask our teens, if they think parents or mentors should hold back on information, or if they should talk with their teens and explain everything. We also can ask them, if they think giving all the information makes them feel even safer, or if they can understand why Miss Graves and her coven did what they did.
The coven is an essential part of this show, and we, as the audience learn, that witches are stronger in a coven than alone. We can adapt this into the real world and talk with our teens about their friend group and if they think that everything should be about group decisions and we can talk about peer pressure and if they can differentiate good group dynamics from peer pressure. We can talk about Sasha who decided not to go to an elite academy to stay with her coven and ask our teenagers if they think that this was the correct decision and if they think that Sasha would decide the same way 20 years later.
The love triangle gives us a lot to talk about as well, because we can talk with our teens about who they would choose if they were in Briar's place. We can ask them about society's expectation to be with someone similar to oneself or if we think that living in different cultures and here in this context in different worlds, the Vampire and the Witch World, is enriching a relationship or if it makes it harder.
For me Coven Academy is a great show to sit and watch with your teen on a cozy weekend with lots of comfort food and having a good time. It's a show which all ages of teens and parents can relate to and have fun while watching.
